The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) office in Philadelphia has filed an age discrimination complaint against AmerisourceBergen Corp., a pharmaceutical company, according to BizJournals.com. The complaint alleges that AmerisourceBergen telecommunications manager applicant Rovert Aellis, 60, was not hired simply because of his age. Aellis’s resume was forwarded to AmerisourceBergen by Bluewolf, a recruiting agency which identified him as a qualified candidate for the vacant position.
“While there are limits to what we can say about pending litigation, we are disappointed that the EEOC has filed a complaint on behalf of an individual who was one of a large number of applicants for an open position within our company,” AmerisourceBergen said in a released statement. “AmerisourceBergen is committed to equal employment opportunity, and we actively cultivate a diverse and inclusive environment for our current and potential employees.”
AmerisourceBergen ultimately concluded that Aellis was overqualified for the position. It is possible that there is more to this case that is being held back for a potential lawsuit that is likely to follow.
