Los Angeles City councilman Jose Huizar’s former chief of staff has filed a workplace discrimination complaint alleging gender discrimination and sexual harassment. The woman who filed the complaint, Francine Godoy, left Huizar’s office four months ago after what she climes was harassment and retaliation for her “refusal to engage in sex.”
The complaint also states that Godoy was denied a promotion, forced to quit and transfer, asked “non-job-related questions and was “sabotaged” out of ever holding public office. According to the Los Angeles Times, Huizar’s spokesperson Rick Coca said in an email that Huizar “strongly and emphatically denies the assertions made in the claim sent to the city and intends to fully cooperate with the city in any investigation of this matter.” Coca also mentioned that the councilman was “surprised” by the complaint.
