Westwood is a residential and commercial neighborhood located in the Westside region of Los Angeles, and is most notably the home of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Recreation, Education and Air Service
The Westwood residential area was developed around 1919, with the UCLA campus opening in 1926. Westwood focuses on higher education, with 66 percent of its residents 25 and older having earned a four-year degree by 2000. Westwood is also home to the Westwod Recreation Center, including Aidan’s Place, which is a playground developed for joint use by handicapped and non-handicapped children. There are also many tourist attractions in the Westwood Village Shopping district, which was first opened in 1929. The main source for air transportation in Westwood is outside the community in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles International Airport.
