Last month we reported on the ongoing sexual harassment lawsuit involving Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar. The Los Angeles Times is now reporting that Huizar was the subject of a 2005 criminal investigation in which he was accused of groping a Pasadena massage therapist.
According to a summary of the investigation released by the Pasadena Police Department, the incident in question took place April 9, 2005 at the Burke Williams Spa in Old Town Pasadena. In the report it is alleged that, “[Huizar] grabbed [the massage therapist’s] legs during the massage and attempted to pull her toward the massage table. Additionally, at the conclusion of the massage, [Huizar] grabbed the [massage therapist’s] leg, arm and breast.”
The incident was investigated by police as a possible misdemeanor sexual battery. The matter eventually reached the Pasadena city prosecutors’ office, but the prosecutors’ office did not file charges, because the woman decided she did not want to proceed with the complaint. Connie Orozco, Pasadena’s chief city prosecutor at that time, said the massage therapist was worried she would suffer consequences at work and might lose her job at Burke Williams if she pursued her complaint.
“It rings in my mind that she said they were not supportive in the least and they were encouraging her not to report this,” Orozco told the Times. “I told her this was not a reason to not go forward…when she was victimized.”
