A woman from Charleston, West Virginia is suing her former employer, Patel & Patel, M.D., Inc., claiming she was wrongfully terminated because of her disability. Stacy Thompson was terminated on July 5 after four months of employment, according to court records filed in Kanawha Circuit City.
Thompson claims that her perceived disability made her the victim of illegal discrimination at work4 under West Virginia employment law. Thompson said she informed her employer and gave proper notice for time off required for a surgery she would be undergoing on July 1, returning to work on July 6. The defendant terminated Thompson’s employment as she was recovering from the surgery. The termination was wrongful and violated the West Virginia Human Rights Act.
